Poking badgers with spoons seems an appropriate way to paraphrase my life. I have never been necessarily gentile, but I do think I'm a pretty honest, caring, and attentive guy. But, personality wise, I definitely like to "run with scissors :)" So... for my inaugural post, thought I would introduce readers to a bit more of who I am. Rather than the boring bio stuff, here is some reference to the most unfortunate day for the world that I plopped into being :)
On March 16, 1974, the world welcomed me with open arms, and then looked for the return line at the hospital :)
- By Age 2, I went to pick up a copperhead snake and my uncle shot it out from in front of me.... pure luck that he was coming back in from hunting at that time
- By Age 3, I nearly gouged out my eyeball (on the day before my younger sister being born, poor mother had to deal with blood streaming down my face while she was big and pregnant). Mr. Smooth wrecked his tricycle, after having pulled the squeeze ball off my metal horn.
- At Age 10, I wrecked my bicycle heading too fast down a hill in Kansas, and put a scar down my knee that has not healed to this day. I hobbled over to a friend's house miles away where the mother almost passed out when she saw me.
- At Age 15, I cracked my wrist and broke my nose skateboarding
- At Age 16, I cracked both wrists and broke my nose again... skateboarding, plus I got a fishhook in the eye from a girl that casted over her head... we ended up dating for months.
- At Age 17 I joined the Army... my final act of teenage rebellion being: my father was a pilot in the Air Force, so I joined the Army to jump out of planes instead.
- At Age 20 I was held up in Atlanta, and should have been killed by the fact that I attacked the guys that tried (operative word being, "tried") to hold me up
- At Age 24 I broke my angle trying to impress a girl... she married me.
- By Age 25 I had my first kid
- At Age 32 I got turned around in the woods and ended up falling / sliding off a 20' cliff
- At Age 33, I nearly drowned in a kayaking accident... and it was my fault.
And now, at 34, I am still what I consider to be one of the luckiest people in the world. I have a tremendous wife (that is just gorgeous, and she blogs at http://heck-poodlehead.blogspot.com, 3 amazing kids, one of whom is trying to destroy our lives (you'll see), two dogs, a house, a great job, and things are really looking up. At least that is what Mr. Optimism Says!
